Health, chronic health & investing?
So, if I could promise you $600 million, but the strings attached are chronic depression, physiological depression, no desire to leave the house in the morning, no excitement or joy of waking up in the morning, going to sleep at night not knowing what the point of tomorrow is… Also aimless loss without a sense of purpose in life, would you take it?
the link between health physiological health and investing?
So I think a big connection that people do not make is the link between health physiological health and invest investing. Honestly, I might think that close to 99% of investing is simply physiological?
For example, I’m sure there’s like 1 million cocktails of hormones that exist in your body when it comes to investing in terms of dopamine, serotonin, cortisol, and certainly there are a lot of things that does to your heart rate, adrenaline levels, etc. I think that’s also why the majority of investors and traders tend to be men… More testosterone, greater sensitivity to risk taking?
Zen spartan stoic
So it seems that the truth is, in America and the Western world… We worship capital, capital is our new god. Even one way you could think about it is bitcoin as a digital god.
If we take it back to ancient times, ancient sport times, it seems that the ancient Spartans only cared for freedom, individual liberty, and pride and glory in themselves. There were strict laws prohibiting amassing too much wealth and capital, and even each Spartan was restricted to just one plot of land, nothing more nothing less.
the nature of man
The desire to always want more, maybe it is a feature not a bug?
The more I get involved in wellness, Buddhist, Christian circles… Too much focus on gratitude gratitude practices, saying that desiring more is the root of all evil blah blah blah, I’m starting to get more and more suspicious of this line of thinking.
I think actually… It is a virtue to desire more. Otherwise, we would not have self driving Teslas and Waymo’s, and we would all still be munching acorns in a cave somewhere.
with greater upsides come greater downsides?
Nietzsche has an interesting idea–> in order to make man more “good”, you must also conversely make him more evil? Do you think that, we could have one without the other is nonsense?
Similarly speaking, I had a painful thought:
what if in order to maximize or Joy happiness, gratitude to life etc.… We must also conversely increase our suffering pain, all the bad stuff?
And that actually, if used correctly, maximizing your anxiety depression, and the depressive downward physiology things, we’re actually necessary for a greater upside?
life is all comparison and framing
What is more painful? Going from $1 billion down to $100 million, we’re going from $1 million down to $600,000?
Also, what’s a better situation? Going from $100 million down to $10 million, or, going from earning 60,000 a year to $120,000 a year?
We humans tend to always frame everything, and pin success or failure based on past anchoring numbers and or experiences.
Making health your prime focus
I think everyone has a different definition and or, way to health… What that means to them or how it is manifested in them, therefore, it seems… If you just prioritize your health, and then get your health in order… Everything else will take care of itself?
